if you have not been to Mass in a while, you ought to refrain from going to Holy Communion until
you have made a good CONFESSION. IF, however, for whatever reason, you still intend on receiving Holy Communion at this Mass, you ought, at the very least, to make a good ACT OF CONTRITION indicating your desire to get your life in order with God, who loves YOU, and the Church, who needs YOU. Please therefore pray:

O My God,
I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell, but most of all, because I have offended Thee, My God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I FIRMLY RESOLVE with the help of Thy grace to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life.

After this Mass, since you have promised God that you will confess your sins, be sure you get to CONFESSION very soon.
