What is the All Souls' Day novena? How do I pray it?

All Souls Day is November 2nd,

The day after All Saints Day. It is a feast/solemnity observed by the Roman Catholic Church for the commemoration of the faithfully departed souls in Purgatory, while undergoing purification of their sins before coming into full union with God in Heaven.

All Souls’ Day was established in the eleventh century by St. Odilo of Cluny. The Church of England abolished

All Souls' Day during the Reformation. However, the day has been re-established in Anglo-Catholic churches.

All Souls' Day is also known as the Feast of All Souls, Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed (from the Latin Commemoratio omnium Fidelium Defunctorum), Defuncts' Day (in Mexico and Belgium), or Day of the Dead (in Italy).

"It is a holy and a wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins."
2 Macabees 12:46

"Prayer is the best weapon we possess. It is the key which opens the heart of God."
Padre Pio

All Souls Novena

Say once a day for nine days,
and ending on All Saints Day (the eve All Souls Day).

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful,
grant to the souls of Thy servants and handmaids departed,
the remission of all their sins;
that through pious supplications they may obtain
the pardon they have always desired.
Who livest and reignest with God the Father
in the unity of the Holy Ghost,
God,
world without end.
Amen.

Novena for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Prayer to Our Suffering Savior for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

O most sweet Jesus, through the bloody sweat which Thou didst suffer in the Garden of Gethsemane, have mercy on these Blessed Souls. Have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer during Thy most cruel scourging, have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in Thy most painful crowning with thorns, have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in carrying Thy cross to Calvary, have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer during Thy most cruel Crucifixion, have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in Thy most bitter agony on the Cross, have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, through the immense pain which Thou didst suffer in breathing forth Thy Blessed Soul, have mercy on them.
R. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

Blessed Souls, I have prayed for thee; I entreat thee, who are so dear to God, and who are secure of never losing Him, to pray for me a miserable sinner, who is in danger of being damned, and of losing God forever. Amen.
